A Thank You from Jacob Shaw

Hello Trinity and Mount Zion

Just wanted to offer my thanks and gratitude for the opportunity to fill in for Paul this summer. I got to visit with many old friends and familiar faces; a truly blessed experience. I also had a great time catching up with people and wanted to thank everyone who offered affirming words and encouragement as I begin a new chapter in my ministry calling. Just in case you didn’t get a chance to talk with me one on one, I will offer a summary of what’s been going on in my life since my time as a congregant at Trinity and what is coming in my future. Next time I’m around Trinity or Mount Zion, you can catch me up with what’s been going on with you.

Since my time with Trinity I have completed two University degrees, and I am also working on my Master of Arts in Theological Studies. My current degree’s research focuses on the theological development within the United Church of Canada since the 1960s, looking at such theological influences as German theologian Paul Tillich. I am very hopeful that my research will be a pragmatic tool for the next generation of United Church leadership to consider. I had a great opportunity to do my Master of Divinity program at Queen’s University in Kingston from 2012 – 2014. My college girlfriend Sarah and I got married in 2013, and we now have a small dog Corvo, who is pride and joy.

My wife and I are super excited to be moving this September, so I may begin my student Internship, with First United of Owen Sound, which will gear me up for the pathway to ordination in the U.C.C.

Overall, I am very thankful for the part that both Trinity and Mt Zion have played in my development in my youth, and in the wonderful pulpit supply experience this summer. I will keep both congregation in my prayers and lift your spiritual communities to the Lord for continued guidance and grace.

I wish all of you the very best, many blessings,

Jacob Shaw
